The most important aspect of the structure of NCIS is its committees. Hundreds
of crop insurance professionals from all over the country participate in the on-going
process of making crop insurance better for companies, agents, and insureds.
Board of Directors - The Board of Directors has
the responsibility of setting the overall course of the Association. This group is made up
of top managers of NCIS Members.
Standing Committees - On the national level, NCIS has standing
committees which meet at periodic intervals throughout the year to discuss recommendations
on key issues for the industry. See graphic chart. These
standing committees include:
Crop-Hail Actuarial & Statistics;
MPCI Actuarial & Statistics;
Crop-Hail Policy, Procedure, and Loss Adjustment;
MPCI Policy, Procedure, and Loss Adjustment;
Technology & Information Processing;
Communications & Outreach Committee;
Training;
Law; and
Program Development.
Regional/State Committees - At the base of the overall
NCIS Committee structure are eighteen regional/state committees.
Each company affiliated with NCIS is automatically a member of these
committees in the region or states in which they operate. On
matters in which a vote is taken, each NCIS Member is entitled to one
vote. These committees meet at least annually and their primary
purpose is to make policy and/or loss adjustment recommendations to the
appropriate NCIS standing committees and the Board of Directors.
Most of the regional/state committees have subcommittees called loss committees
which meet during the loss season to discuss matters of common concern related to claims
and to promote a positive insurance climate regionally. Loss committee participation
is open to any company operating in a given area, however, leadership of these committees
is restricted to NCIS Members only.

During the months of April through November, NCIS conducts many training
activities for crop insurance company adjusters and supervisors. These schools and field
days are held all over the United States and cover a wide variety of crops.
Those who attend the schools learn about plant growth and development, the way
crops recover after damage from insured perils and how to adjust crops following damage
from hail, drought, excess moisture, etc. Visit our Educational Activities page for a list and online registration.
