NORTH DAKOTA ONLY
Fall crop
insurance deadline nears
North Dakota farmers who produce forage and
rye have until September 30 to sign up for federally subsidized crop insurance,
or to make any changes to existing policies.
North Dakota farmers were paid nearly $347
million in crop insurance indemnities for last year’s crop losses. Nationwide,
crop insurance paid out more than $4 billion for losses suffered in 2002. For
the first time, crop insurance surpassed federal disaster programs to become the
largest part of the nation’s safety net for farmers.
To learn more and to sign up for crop
insurance on forage production or rye, or to make any changes to existing
policies, producers must contact a private crop insurance agent before the
September 30 deadline.
