Crop Insurance Price Elections Increased

OVERLAND PARK, KAN…The Risk Management Agency (RMA) has raised the Actual Production History (APH) price elections for fall-seeded wheat and barley.

This news comes just two weeks before the October 2 deadline for signing up for federally subsidized crop insurance. This is also the deadline for making any changes to existing policies.

The increased price elections may affect what coverage levels farmers choose. The new price elections are $2.20 per bushel for barley and $3.90 per bushel for winter wheat. The wheat Crop Revenue Coverage (CRC) price election is $4.35 per bushel.

What crops are insurable and which kinds of policies are available vary from state to state and county to county. Any producer wishing to make changes to an existing policy or to sign up for crop insurance on fall planted crops should contact a crop insurance agent well before the October 2 deadline.
